The ART vision for its involvement in Suriname

Atlas Road Technology is a company that specialises in dust suppression (Dust Suppression) on transport routes (Haul Roads), erosion control of dikes and we have a number of solutions for soil stabilisation (Soil Stabilisation) in road construction. We have developed an innovative technology in-house, in the field of the construction of (un)paved roads and asphalted roads in both urban and rural areas.

Left untreated, dust from unsealed roads, hardstands, cleared sites and large soil/mineral stockpiles can have a considerable impact on staff, the environment and the quality of life for local communities near or besides unpaved roads or haul roads.

Our products are ecologically and environmentally safe

Our Dust Suppression products minimalise this impact by locking down dust on unpaved roads (Haul Roads). Also reducing the potential for incidents by reducing traffic volumes. The use of Dust Suppression products improves the running surface of treated roads over time, by reducing rolling resistance and maintaining surface integrity.

Thanks to the polymer innovation, soil stabilisation products can easily be integrated into local soil conditions or bitumen application (sand, clay, gravel or existing bitumen) to create a semi-flexible and water-repellent surface. Treatments with our products are relatively fast and the treated roadway is usually opened to traffic again after 12 hours up to a few days after the application. After applying our stabilisation products, it is not necessary to use asphalt. It is a choice, this saves time, costs and maintenance in the long term.

Our products are ecologically, environmentally safe and sustainable. Dust Suppression products mitigate the impact of dust on surrounding environment and communities.

Our Outlook for Suriname

Our vision for Suriname is to restore existing secondary and tertiary (un) paved roads or to construct new roads and to guarantee the sustainability of these for future generations.

Our strategy is the “all-inclusive” development approach whereby local communities living close to the roads will themselves be able to work on maintaining and perpetuating the road network in their residential area.

We see sufficient opportunities in Suriname for the coming years to make an innovative contribution to infrastructural projects. This applies to both the rehabilitation of existing or new roads. After thorough research, we believe that secondary and tertiary roads are an important component in opening up areas that are of economic importance for exports and the associated economic growth for both the government and the private sector.

Roads that need to be temporarily impassable or closed during the rainy seasons, which results in loss of income for the government, can almost always remain open after rehabilitation with our stabilisation products. This allows the removal of products from the interior to, for example, the port of Paranam and Paramaribo to be continued.

CARICOM positive developments and opportunities

Given the positive developments and opportunities that we see for the short, medium and long term, we have the intention to set up a small production facility in the short and medium term. The production facility must then develop into a fully-fledged factory in the coming years, whereby Suriname can act as a HUB for the South American market and the CARICOM region.
